Kofi Adams: Ghana will be ready before Panama clash

Ghana’s preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup are under the spotlight after sports minister Kofi Adams admitted that the country is not yet fully ready for the global tournament.

The minister acknowledged that key aspects of the team’s preparation remain incomplete, most notably the absence of a substantive head coach. “If I tell you that we are ready… we don’t even have a head coach. So, it means that we are not fully ready yet,” Adams said.

His statement highlights ongoing uncertainty surrounding the technical leadership of the Ghana national football team, a crucial component ahead of any major international competition.

Despite the current challenges, Adams expressed confidence that the team will be adequately prepared in time for their opening fixture against the Panama national football team. He stressed that efforts are underway to ensure the Black Stars are in the best possible shape when the tournament begins.

“This is a World Cup that I see us doing well in. We should be hopeful,” he added, striking a more optimistic tone. The minister’s belief in the team’s potential comes even as he admitted that the current squad may lack the cohesion of some of Ghana’s previous generations, who played together for longer periods.

Ghana’s history at the FIFA World Cup has been marked by moments of promise, including their historic run to the quarter-finals in 2010. However, recent tournaments have seen mixed performances, increasing pressure on the current crop of players to deliver.

The minister remains convinced that the talent available is sufficient for a deep run. “We still have what it takes for us to go very, very far. Maybe possibly even win the World Cup,” he said, a statement that underscores both ambition and belief within the country’s football leadership.

As preparations continue, attention will be focused on resolving the coaching situation and building a cohesive squad capable of competing at the highest level.
