The Ghana Police Service has successfully foiled a planned robbery attack along the Ejura–Nkoranza highway in the Ashanti Region, following an intelligence-led operation.

According to a police statement, the operation took place on April 9, 2026, near Mimenaso No. 2, where officers had gathered intelligence about a group of six individuals allegedly preparing to ambush and rob unsuspecting commuters along the busy stretch.

The gang was reportedly led by Mahamadu Fuseini, also known as “Shaini”.

Acting swiftly on the information, a team of officers moved to the identified location, believed to be a bush hideout used by the suspects as a staging ground for their planned attack.

However, upon arrival, the suspects, apparently mistaking the approaching officers for potential victims, opened fire.

The police team responded, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire. During the confrontation, one of the suspects was shot.

The remaining members of the gang, including the alleged leader, managed to flee the scene and are currently being pursued by the Ghana Police Service.

A search conducted at the scene led to the retrieval of several items believed to be linked to the planned robbery. These included a pump-action shotgun loaded with four live cartridges, two spent cartridges, and three assorted keypad mobile phones.

Additionally, officers discovered two more live cartridges in the pocket of the deceased suspect, along with a talisman tied around his waist, suggesting possible reliance on spiritual protection.

The deceased suspect’s body has been deposited at the Atebubu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, as part of ongoing investigations.
