Ghana gas plant fault disrupts power supply

The Ghana Grid Company has announced that the Ghana Gas Processing Plant has developed a serious technical fault after the Burner Management System controller for the Heat Medium System completely failed.

This failure has forced operators to shut down the plant immediately and reduce the supply of gas to thermal power plants.

In a joint press release issued on April 15, 2026, Ghana Gas and the Ghana Grid Company explained that the damaged system needs to be fully replaced.

“The public is hereby informed that the Ghana Gas Processing Plant has experienced a significant technical fault following the complete failure of the Burner Management System controller for the Heat Medium System. Preliminary assessments indicate that the affected system is damaged and will require a full replacement,” the statement read.

Because of this unexpected problem, the plant had to stop operations at once. This shutdown has temporarily reduced gas supply to thermal power plants, which has led to power outages in some parts of the country.

Engineers are now carrying out a detailed technical and safety assessment to find the safest and fastest way to restore operations.

“A dedicated team of engineers is working diligently, around the clock, to replace the damaged system and expedite the restoration process,” the release stated.

Depending on the results of the ongoing assessments, Ghana Gas plans to begin restoring operations later today, April 16, 2026. The company has asked the public to remain patient during this period.

“We will continue to provide timely updates as the situation evolves. The public is kindly urged to bear with us during this period of disruption. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding and cooperation,” the statement concluded.
