The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has categorically denied the allegations made in a viral video from Sompa FM, which claims that the Department has erased salary arrears owed to nurses and teachers.
In a statement titled “Misinformation Alert,” the CAGD describes the assertion as false, unfounded, and completely fabricated.
The Department clarified that it lacks the legal authority or administrative power to delete or unilaterally cancel salary arrears owed to public servants. It emphasised that any implication to the contrary represents a significant misrepresentation of its statutory responsibilities.
“The claim is misleading and inaccurate,” the statement emphasised, cautioning that the dissemination of such unverified information could lead to unnecessary anxiety among public sector employees, especially nurses and teachers.
The CAGD called on media organisations and content platforms to practise due diligence by confirming allegations with the relevant authorities prior to publication or broadcast. It also warned against the propagation of misinformation and disinformation that could erode public trust in state institutions.
Reaffirming its dedication to transparency and accountability, the Department assured the public that it remains committed to the lawful execution of its mandate within Ghana’s public financial management framework.
