The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a suspected gang leader along with another individual in relation to the robbery incident that led to the unfortunate death of Dominic Frimpong, a footballer associated with Berekum Chelsea F.C.

According to initial information provided by the police, the arrests were executed following an intelligence-driven operation aimed at locating those believed to be accountable for the deadly robbery.

This operation, which involved specialised police intelligence units, is part of ongoing initiatives to combat violent crime and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.

Police sources have reported that during the operation, one of the suspects engaged in a gunfight with officers, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.

The suspect incurred gunshot wounds during the confrontation and was subsequently subdued and taken into custody.

He has since been transported under police supervision to a medical facility, where he is presently receiving care.

The second suspect, who is thought to be the leader of the criminal gang, was apprehended in a separate yet coordinated operation.

Authorities have not yet revealed the identities of the suspects. Still, investigations are ongoing to ascertain the complete circumstances surrounding the robbery and the events that culminated in the footballer’s demise.

The attack transpired on the night of Sunday, April 12, 2026, along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District, as the team was en route from Samreboi to Berekum.

The police, in their statement, indicated that the bus, which was carrying approximately 30 players and officials, came under assault from six armed individuals, three of whom were armed with pump-action shotguns.
