EOCO raids home of ex-GIHOC boss Kofi Jumah

On Tuesday, April 14, officers from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) searched the home of former lawmaker and former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, located in Atonsu.

According to Paul Yandoh, the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the NPP, the officers came with documents that allowed them to carry out the search. However, Mr. Jumah was not at home at the time.

Yandoh said the officers took several items from the house.

“They came with a paper saying they had instructions from the EOCO boss to search the house. They took all the keys, documents from his room, his laptop, everything,” he explained.

He also questioned why the officers took the house keys.

“I asked them why they were taking the keys. They didn’t give any clear answer. I even asked if he had stolen anything like a building, but they wouldn’t respond,” he added.

Yandoh criticised how the search was done, saying it didn’t follow the usual process.

“What happened to the normal way of inviting someone to provide documents or answer questions?” he asked.

He believes the incident may be politically motivated.

“To me, this looks like political persecution or witch hunting. This is not the right way to do things. Just because a new government is in power doesn’t mean the previous one should be treated like criminals,” he said.

He also warned that power can change hands again in the future.

“One day, power will change again. And when it does, people might respond in the same way. Serving your country should not become a crime,” he added.

So far, EOCO has not responded to the incident, and the claims about the items taken have not been independently confirmed.
