The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe and Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has called for major improvements in Ghana’s justice system.

Mr Ahmed Shaib called for modernised courts, the use of digital technology, and easier access to justice.

He made these comments on Thursday, April 16, 2026, while speaking on behalf of the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, during the launch of the Supreme Court’s 150th anniversary celebration.

According to him, Ghana’s judiciary needs to move forward with new ideas, teamwork, and a stronger focus on serving the public well.

“Looking ahead, we must define the future with boldness. Let us modernise our courts, embrace digitalisation, expand access to justice, and strengthen legal education,” he said.

He also highlighted the need for better cooperation between the three arms of government, Parliament, the Executive, and the Judiciary, while still respecting their independence.

“Let us build bridges of collaboration between Parliament, the Executive, and the Judiciary each respecting the boundaries of the other, yet united in service to the people,” he added.

Jerry Ahmed Shaib also encouraged young lawyers and judges to work with honesty, courage, and responsibility.

“To the next generation of lawyers and judges, carry forward the torch of justice with integrity, courage, and humility. The Supreme Court is more than an institution ,it is a symbol of hope, fairness, and the enduring promise of democracy,” he stated.

He described the judiciary as a key part of Ghana’s democracy, saying it plays an important role in ensuring fairness, protecting the rule of law, and keeping the trust of the people.
