I’m back to reclaim my throne – Black Sherif

He has been relatively low-key on the local music scene following his Zaama Disco concert last December, sparking curiosity among fans and raising questions about what has been happening with Ghanaian music star Black Sherif.

However, there is no cause for concern. The Kwaku the Traveller hitmaker, who admits his recent silence was both intentional and necessary, is back and ready to reclaim his spot at the top.

And he has not returned empty-handed. Backing his words with action, he arrives with a new single, Pop Star, which is already gaining traction across streaming platforms.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Friday, March 27, 2026, Black Sherif revealed that he has been far from idle during his brief hiatus.

According to him, he has been touring internationally to sold-out audiences while building the networks needed to thrive on the global stage.

The 24-year-old artiste disclosed that he has also been carefully recalibrating his craft and strategy for what he describes as a defining year.

He explained that growth sometimes requires stepping away from the noise to focus on direction, purpose and longevity.

“I never stopped working. Sometimes you need to step back, reflect and understand what you really want to do next. I needed that time to build something meaningful. That period of reflection has shaped not just my outlook but, most importantly, my artistry.

“Now I am more self-aware and deliberate, and I am returning with a renewed sense of identity and a stronger connection to my purpose. I’m coming back as a better version of myself. Everything I’m doing now is intentional. I understand my space more, and I know exactly what I want to give to the world.”

He added that the break allowed him to reflect deeply on his journey, his identity as an artiste and the legacy he hopes to build in the years ahead.

“I’ve learned a lot about myself and the craft. This phase is about being more intentional, more honest and more fearless with what I put out.”

Black Sherif emphasised that his return is not driven by pressure or competition, but by a personal desire to evolve and remain true to his unique voice.

“This is not about proving anything to anyone. It’s about becoming the best version of myself and giving my fans something real.”

That renewed energy and clarity have now found expression in his new single, Pop Star. Speaking about the song, he described it as a reflection of his journey so far.

“I feel like Pop Star is more than just a song; it reflects everything I have been through and the growth that has come with it. The journey has not always been smooth, but every challenge has shaped my mindset and my sound. This record carries that renewed energy and clarity, and it shows where I am now, both as an artiste and as a person.

“It also represents a moment of confidence for me. I have come to fully understand my place and what I bring to the table, and Pop Star captures that boldness. It is about owning your story, embracing the spotlight without losing yourself, and reminding people that every phase, whether quiet or loud, plays a role in the bigger picture”, he added.
